However, when Patterson’s request for the anti-anxiety drug Ativan was denied by doctors, he became upset and pulled out a handgun, firing shots. As a result, an official shelter-in-place order was issued, and a nearby apartment building was put on lockdown.

Despite the large police presence, Patterson managed to escape and steal an unattended pickup truck from a nearby gas station. Fortunately, the truck’s license plate was captured on camera, allowing police to track its location and notify neighboring Cobb County officials.
